Here is an in-depth analysis of humanitarian situation in Gaza, it shows the critical humanitarian situation in that region, mainly covering some key data points taken from the last five years records. Particularly for the period October 2023 to October 2025. In The Gaza Crisis: Essential Data Overview (2020-2025), the data covers various aspects such as health, human casualties, displacement, occupation, and economy, all supported by published facts and figures to give the overview of the crisis.
Health Crisis of Gaza: Impact of Collapse of System & Public Health
Healthcare infrastructure at Gaza has faced catastrophic damage and severe issues and challenges, which led to an extreme public health crisis. The capacity of essential medical services delivery has been drastically reduced which is impacting hundreds of thousands of civilians there.
Healthcare System Collapse
As projected by a September 2025 WHO report, Out of 36 hospitals in Gaza only 14 were estimated to be able to provide some essential health services by October 2025.[1][2]
At least 125 health facilities, including 34 hospitals have been damaged or destroyed.[1][3][7]
By September 2025, 94% of hospitals were damaged or destroyed, which resulted in remaining hospitals functioning at nearly 300% over capacity.[1][4]
Even the main WHO warehouse in Deir Al-Balah was destroyed in July 2025 due to attacks.[1][4]
Medical Supplies and Care
There are severe shortages of essential drugs (around 52% at zero stock) and medical disposables (around 68% at zero stock).[1][4]
Delivery of Aid is facing major delays, an average aid box reaching Gaza from Egypt is taking four to five weeks in 2024.[1][2]
Injuries
As per the reports over 169,000 people have been injured out of which many are suffering life-altering wounds (Around 42,000 people) [1][3][5][6] in that, one in four are children.[1][2][5]
As per UNICEF’s estimation, around 3,000 to 4,000 children in Gaza have lost one or more limbs.[1][3] and that is why Gaza has the world’s largest cohort of child amputees per capita.[1][5]
Diseases and Malnutrition
As of August 2025, Gaza Governorate confirmed Famine and predicted to expand.[1][2][3][4]
A Catastrophic conditions of over half a million people in the Gaza Strip described by starvation and death as of September 2025.[1][4]
Malnutrition of children surged and over 12,000 were found acutely malnourished in July 2025, which is six times higher than at the start of the year.[1][3]
As of September 5, 2025, 361 Palestinians, including 130 children, have died due to malnutrition.[1][4]
As of October 7, 2025, at least 459 people, including 154 children, have died due to starvation.[2][4]
Infectious Diseases
The official reported cases of infectious diseases were over 700,000, in January 2024, likely an undercount.[1][6]
Cases among children under five years of age, include over 179,000 acute respiratory infections and more than 136,400 diarrhea cases.[1][6]
Maternal Health
Due to the collapse of the healthcare system an estimated 50,000 pregnant women and girls were deprived of proper care, leading to a 300% increase in miscarriages.[2][3]

Other reports reveal that at least 67,074 Palestinians are killed as of October 4, 2025.[1][5]
The Gaza Ministry of Health has reported over 44,000 are killed and 104,000 are wounded since October 7, 2023, by late November 2024.[2][3]

These figures are probably undercounts due to bodies under rubble and indirect deaths.[1][3][4][5][6]
Children and Women

Roughly 70% of verified fatalities were women and children.[2][3]
Missing Persons
The no. of people reported missing under the rubble is around 7,780.[1][6]

Mass Displacement & Humanitarian Aid in Gaza
Almost the entire population of Gaza has been displaced forcibly multiple times, aggravating the humanitarian crisis and overwhelming limited shelter and aid resources.
Mass Displacement
Around 90% of the Palestinian population of Gaza, which is approximately 2.3 million, have been forcibly displaced during the war. [2][4]
Many people in Gaza have been displaced repeatedly, some 10 times or more.[2][4]
Restricted Areas
As of June 2025, within the Israeli-militarized zone of the Gaza Strip, 82.6% were under displacement orders, or where these overlap. [2][4]
Evacuation Orders
In October 2023, Israel ordered to evacuate over 1 million people in northern Gaza within 24 hours. [2][3][5]
By May 2024, more than half of Gaza’s population was crammed in Rafah (a city in Palestine), which was then attacked, forcing over 1.4 million to flee again. [2][5]
Between March 18 and May 27, 2025, approximately 632,700 people were forcibly displaced again.[3][5]

Occupation, Infrastructure Destruction & Conflict Effects
The Gaza conflict has led to record destruction of civilian infrastructure, residential areas, essential services, and educational facilities, during this crisis, the aid access still remains severely restricted.
Infrastructure Destruction
A large part of Gaza has become uninhabitable due to the unprecedented destruction by Israel, leveling entire cities, and destroying hospitals, religious/cultural landmarks, educational facilities, agricultural land, and cemeteries.[3][4]
Over 60% of residential units were destroyed or partially damaged.[1][6]
More than 87% of schools and all universities have been damaged or destroyed in Gaza. [2][3]
Aid Restrictions
Israel has been accused of deliberately blocking and delaying the humanitarian aid including large-scale food, health, and other supply.[1][4]
Between March 2 and May 18, 2025, for 77 days, Israel systematically blocked the entry of all goods and humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.[3][5]
Education
Since October 7, 2023, more than 10,000 students and 441 educational staff were killed in Gaza.[2][3]
Detention
Over 12,000 Palestinians have been detained. [3][4]
At least 53 Palestinians died in detention as of July 2025. [2][3]

Conclusion
Data of last five years, particularly the post October 2023 shows a clear picture of an increasing humanitarian devastation in Gaza. The complete collapse of the healthcare system and major loss of life and mass displacement of almost the entire population. The systematic destruction of infrastructure and severe economic damage highlight the need for the urgent full intervention and long-term recovery plan and efforts. This data also shows the amount of severe ongoing suffering of millions under terrible humanitarian conditions on the ground in Gaza.
