Former Democratic President Jimmy Carter defended President Trump and attacked Hillary in a stunning New York Times interview. Carter even revealed that he didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton in the primary. Instead he voted for Bernie Sanders. He started by talking about how their is no evidence that Russia influenced our election.
“Did the Russians purloin the election from Hillary?” asked the New York Times. “I don’t think there’s any evidence that what the Russians did changed enough votes, or any votes,” said Carter. “We voted for Sanders,” he said.
He then discussed whether or not it is ethical for Clinton and Obama to make so much money from speeches. “I don’t care if he gets rich or Clinton gets rich or whatever. I don’t want to get into a bragging position; I’m not trying to do that. But I announced when I was defeated I was not going to be on corporate boards, I was not going to try to enrich myself with speeches. I was patterning my policy after Harry Truman,” said Carter.
He then surprisingly defended President Trump. “I think the media have been harder on Trump than any other president certainly that I’ve known about. I think they feel free to claim that Trump is mentally deranged and everything else without hesitation,” said Carter.
He then criticized NFL players kneeling during the anthem. “I think they ought to find a different way to object, to demonstrate. I would rather see all the players stand during the American anthem,” he said. Check out the full interview here.
