Several officers from Texas made headlines not long ago, when they entered a Whataburger restaurant this Saturday, and tried ordering food as usual, only to be met with a fiery reply by the fast food worker, who refused to serve them and apparently started cursing at the officers. But the most concerning part of all was when the manager, instead of taking any actions in stopping the employee, only said “I don’t get into politics.” According to the employee, the reason behind her outrage was because cops beat up her boyfriend “and are racists.”
The whole thing was later explained by Chief Jay Burch, who took it to Facebook to provide a detailed explanation, saying “when 2 of my officers were refused service by an employee of a local restaurant on October 14 just after midnight, then cursed by that employee and the on-duty manager’s only response is, “I don’t get into politics”, that concerns me,” further explaining how if a business doesn’t want to serve officers, they should just inform them or put up a sign, and they’ll simply go somewhere else.
Burch also explained that he couldn’t tolerate this kind of behavior since while everyone else was sleeping, the officers were out to keep the people safe, and despite their effort and night shifts, they were met with this kind of a treatment.
Following the response from the chief, Whataburger restaurants released an official response, writing, “An individual employee acted out of line with Whataburger’s values to treat all customers with respect. We took swift action and this person is no longer employed by us.”
Whataburger even went as far as to state that it plans on speaking to the officers individually to apologize for this behavior and “make this right.”
