Dem Sen. Dianne Feinstein Admits DACA Was Illegal

On Tuesday President Trump announced an end the Obama-era DACA program that grants work permits to illegal immigrants who arrived in this country illegally with their lawbreaking parents or guardians.

California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein admitted that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is on “shaky legal ground” in a Tuesday interview with MSNBC.

When asked by MSNBC’s Chuck Todd whether DACA is legal or not, Feinstein tried to circumvent the question by referring to DACA as an “executive order.”

“DACA was executive order,” Feinstein said on “Meet the Press Daily.” “Legal is the law of passage of something. I, you know, there are ten attorneys general that are prepared to sue. I don’t want to get into that. The point is, DACA is here, and we’ve got 800,000 young people who depend on it.”

Todd responded by telling Feinstein that it seemed she was saying DACA was on “shaky legal ground.”

“Your answer indicates, though, that it’s on shaky legal ground,” he said.

“It is. That’s why we need to pass a law. And we should do it,” Feinstein replied.

The Trump administration rolled back DACA Tuesday with a six-month delay in order to give Congress time to act.

“This is a gradual process, not a sudden phase out. Permits will not begin to expire for another six months, and will remain active for up to 24 months. Thus, in effect, I am not going to just cut DACA off, but rather provide a window of opportunity for Congress to finally act,” Trump said in his statement.
